Outdoors, Sports, & Hobbies

Connecting with the physical world is a core tenet of Hîsyêô life, honoring Dimîtu (Nature) and Îfêstôs (Effort).

Outdoor Activities

Most outdoor activities involve the verb tuluti (to traverse/travel) or kelo (to play).

nûs kûu li mût tohilôk bûmî til xe tuluti bi wowoê.Let's go to the mountains to hike.

tîton onô li kîldo êto.The path is very long.

nûs ke tuluti lon wokût côt.We will travel for a long time.

English "long" - Time vs. Space

Remember that Hîsyêô culture does not perceive time as a line like many european cultures do, instead time radiates out from the center like rings of a tree trunk. For describing a long path, you can safely use the word for "long" kîldo. For describing a long time, you should not use the word for "long" because, in Hîsyêô, the appropriate adjective would be "thick" côt.

Sports

Sports are generally referred to as kelo (play/game). Team sports emphasize zomo (group/team).
